Conservation on the Farm

Farming with care

mylove-call-us-2

Conservation is an important part of the management at Monkton Wyld. Along side the holiday park we run and manage a small traditional west country farm. The farm holds a small herd of north devon cattle, renowned for their west country hardiness and a small flock of Polled Dorset Sheep. Both the sheep and cattle are native to the area and are suitable for low input, extensive farming.

We do not use sprays or chemicals on the farm. All the animals are fed on forage produced on the farm with no intensive rearing methods used.

Pastures are species rich with many wild flowers and grasses present. Hedges are cut on a rotational basis to allow berries to be produced for the wild birds.

At Monkton Wyld we have an ongoing policy of tree planting and hedgerow replacement with thousands of native trees being planted in the last ten years.
