Blackdown Hills Beer & Music Festival 2017
On August 11th & 12th 2017, the Blackdown Hills Beer and Music Festival is once again roaring to life!
Boasting 40+ Real Ales, a few ciders and even some wine, plus some great West Country bands and a brilliant family atmosphere, this has become an annual event you won’t want to miss! The Blackdown Hills Beer and Music Festival was born in 1996 in direct response to the imminent loss, due to budget cuts, of the music teacher at the local primary school and became a huge success.
Each year, the Festival gives grants for music teaching to the local schools. Without these grants, music would inevitably come very low down on the list of priorities for small schools on a tight budget, and many children might never have the chance to find out what they can do! In terms of enjoyment, confidence building, community spirit – and the sheer sense of achievement in learning to do something new – have been enormous as a result of the festival.
Gates open on Fri 6.30pm until 12.30am, then Saturday 1pm until midnight. Tickets can be purchased from the website.

Buckham Fair is a great, old-fashioned, vintage fair that takes place in Beaminster, Dorset, every year in August to raise funds for local charities. This family day out offers all visitors a wide variety of things to see and do, whether you enjoy the funfair, or browsing through some of the best local artisan creations, indulging in some of the finest local foods from the area, taking part in some of our many horse and dog show activities, or simply watching enjoying the spectacles in our main display ring – Buckham Fair has something for everyone.
Over the years the Fair has grown bigger and better – this year amongst other rides we will have a Big Wheel, Dodgems, a Carousel and a Helter Skelter.
The Trade Stands have also become a large part of the attractions selling mainly local products and the Food Court has grown to include an Inside tented ‘Deli’ area.
We do feel very lucky to live in such an unspoilt and beautiful area and it is fantastic to be able to share it with the community once a year.
Are you a keen horse, pony, dog and food lover? If so, Buckham Fair has schedules packed full of many and varied events including Police Dog Displays, Heavy Horse Displays, Vintage Cars and Scooters. The Fair is even held on land with an Ancient Charter that allows the holder of the land to hold a Fair each year – even more perfect!

The spectacle covers an enormous showground, at over 600 acres being one of Europe’s largest outdoor event locations. 2017 sees the show in its 49th year.

River Cottage Festival 2017
You choose how to enjoy the festival: you can lie back and relax in the beautiful surroundings of River Cottage HQ while enjoying some delectable culinary delights, or get stuck in and take advantage of all the activities on offer. For those who fancy building up an appetite, you could start the day with an activity – perhaps a yoga class or go on a foraging tour. The children will be spoilt for choice with activities such as circus skills, musical instrument-making, bushcraft and pottery workshops to keep them entertained. While they’re having fun, take the time to laze in the wild flower meadow with a backdrop of rolling Devon hills enjoying a cider or even a cocktail or two.
As you would expect there’ll be food a-plenty. They will be joined by a host of well-known chefs who’ll be giving cooking demonstrations. You can choose from a fantastic selection of cookery masterclasses and the River Cottage chefs will be cooking up delicious seasonal food for you to enjoy, either as a sit-down meal in the famous farmhouse or snack outside in festival fields. And, there will be some of the best street food stalls around as well as plenty of tasty treats for you to take home.
Of course it wouldn’t be a festival without live music. The soundtrack to the weekend includes mellow acoustic artists to help you chill out and soak up the magical River Cottage atmosphere and some lively foot-stomping bands to really get the party started once the sun sets.
Finally, as the day comes to end you can stroll across the fields in the moonlight to the campsite where you can choose to stay in either your own tent (book a Weekend Festival ticket) or why not book a gorgeous Honeybell’s tent for a little bit of luxury?
