Our Access Statement

Your arrival on site:

Charmouth Site is 4 miles from Axminster railway station. The station is on the main Waterloo to Exeter line. There is a no. 31 bus service from Axminster station every hour to the Hunters Lodge Pub which is one mile from the site. From the Hunters Lodge Pub bus stop to the site it is necessary to cross the busy A35 trunk road. There are no dedicated pedestrian crossing points. The walk from to the site is level and mainly on pavements. There is a 500m stretch of lane with no pavement. The site is signposted with brown tourism signs.

There is a Camping and Caravanning Club Sign at the main entrance. From the entrance there is a 80m uphill sloping tarmac road to reception. The area outside reception is level tarmac with adequate room for parking and turning vehicles. There are no dedicated disabled parking bays. A bench is situated immediately outside reception.

The site is controlled by a locked barrier between 2300hrs and 0700hrs. Between these times access is via the late night parking area. The late night parking area is situated 140m north of the main entrance along Scott's Lane. There is parking room for 4 cars. The parking area is compacted gravel. Pedestrian access to the site is via a 1.2m gravel path to the right side of a locked steel barrier. In 15m there is a wooden gate 1.2 m wide to the main camping area. A further 40m of loose gravel leads to the main tarmac internal site road. This area is located centrally in the site. Reception is 105m uphill from this point. All areas are lit by low level amenity lighting.

 

Your Check In:

The reception door is 780mm wide but this is a double door which can be opened to give an aperture 1560mm in width, there is a 30mm threshold. The door handle is at a height of 1050mm.

The reception area has a clear open manoeuvrable floor space of 1900mm x 5600mm which is free from clutter

The reception counter is 1110mm high with a lower section at the far end of 720mm. Currently there is no induction loop system installed

 

Your Pitch:

The site offers a range of pitch types-grass, hard standing (large gravel) and all weather (a fine mix of gravel & rubber). None have kerbed frontage and all pitches will allow vehicles to be parked close by any unit. All hard standings are level, some grass pitches have a slight slope. The site has a gently sloping road system and most hard standing also have compacted gravel roads which lead to the tarmac ring road. There are a number of pitches which are identified for persons with a disability which give level access to the facilities via compacted gravel road, tarmac paths, 3 steps or slightly sloping gravel path..

The electricity hook up points are at varying heights from 500mm

 

Your facilities (non-disabled):

The site has two facility blocks, the one nearest to the reception, which is the largest has a flat concrete path surrounding the block with tarmac paths or steps from the upper pitches.

Access to the male or female sides have a190mm step through a self closing door 780mm wide, there are no handrails,. There are a number of toilet cubicles of varying sizes the smallest is 740mm wide. All door widths are 740mm. Toilets are handle flushes set at 900mm from the floor. There are large open manoeuvring areas in all parts of the facilities. The Urinals are set at 600mm & 500mm. The wash basins are set at 850mm with one lower at 700mm, all have lever handles. The showers have fixed heads set at 2100mm with the variable heat lever controls at 1400mm each have soap dishes. Shower cubicles are also varying sizes all with fixed seats and changing areas- the smallest being 740mm X 1200mm. Door width is 740mm. All have a nonslip surface, there are no handrails in these showers. The electric hand drier is 1200mm.& the hair drier is also set at 1500mm in the ladies.

The smaller facilities block has a flat concrete path surrounding the building access to both male & female areas have a 110mm step through a 700mm self closing door. The light switches are1400mm from the floor as are the mirrors. Shower cubicles are 700mm X 700mm with a step of 280mm in to the cubicle. The shower heads are 1900mm, the lever control at 1400mm, a changing area of 1600mm X 2200mm has freestanding plastic chairs. All the door locks are 1150mm from the floor. Wash basins are set at 850mm the urinals are 600mm & 500mm, Toilet cubicles have a door width of either 680mm or 600mm.

 

Your accessible facilities:

The site also has a family room area within each block which are suitable for the less able bodied, the one closest to the reception has a small ramp to give wheel chair access rising 190mm to give level entrance to the room through a 800mm door, the toilet has a hand rail to the left side, the wash basin is set at 800mm it is not accessible from the toilet. The step down shower cubicle is 1200mm X 800mm with a removable shower head the controls are lever type at a height of 1400mm.There is also a plastic chair which is not fixed for use in the shower if required. The baby changing bench is set at 850mm.There is also a hand drier and hair drier 1100mm & 1500mm .There is a manoeuvrable area of 1900mm X 2100mm

The smaller block has a level access on concrete through a 800mm door the shower cubicle is 700mm X 700mm with a step up of 280mm the removable showerhead is 1400mm and the controls are 1200mm.The handbasin is 850mm with lever type handles and the toilet handle is also at 850mm.with a hand rail to the left .There is also a freestanding plastic chair in.the manoeuvrable area of 2000mm X 2700mm . A baby changing bench is at 850mm.

 

Your laundry and food preparation areas:

There are two laundry & food preparation areas each attached to the shower facilities. Each have level access from the concrete path, the block nearest to the reception has a small ramp rising 200mm with a handrail at 900mm in to the laundry room through a 780mm door where the machines coin slots are at 1100mm. The iron coin slot is at 1500mm and the hand washing sinks are 900mm with the lever taps 550mm from the front.

The food preparation and washing up area has door access of 950mm, sinks are at 950mm with lever taps at a depth of 500mm. there are both left and right draining boards. The light switch is at 1450mm.

The smaller block laundry door is 800mm and the machine coin slots are at 1100mm the hand wash sink is 900mm with the taps at a depth of 350mm. The iron is at 1300mm and the light switch is 1400mm. The food preparation and washing up door is 1120mm wide, the sinks are 900mm high and the taps are push button 500mm from the front, there are left and right draining areas. The light switch is at 1400mm.

 

Waste, fire and evacuation:

Waste disposal points are situated in all camping and caravanning areas. They consist of domestic style dustbins in brick containment points. The front of the brick containment points is open allowing clear, unfettered access to the bins. The waste points also include fresh water points consisting of single hose union tap 900mm high. Adjacent there is a drain for waste water disposal with a single hose union tap 900mm high. Four waste points are accessible from hard roads, the remainder are in level grass areas. There are a total of 13 waste disposal points. No pitch is further than 90m from a waste disposal point. Recycling facilities are located adjacent to the late night parking area and consist of wheelie bins for different types of re-cycling material. The bins are 1.3m high with lift up lids .

The motor home service point is adjacent to the recycling area and consists grey water disposal point, black water disposal point, a wash down water hose connected to a tap 900 high, a fresh water hose union tap 900mm high. The black water disposal point has a heavy cast iron cover which is accessed with a long handled key (provided), lifted and slid to one side.

Fire points are situated around the site. All waste disposal areas incorporate 2 no. water fire extinguishers in plastic containment boxes 750mm high with a hinged front cover operated by two metal clasps. A fire triangle is located at each point 1.7m high. A fire beater is located at each point. No pitches are located more than 90m from a pitch. Further fire fighting appliances are located in the shower blocks and laundries.

There are two fire assembly points, one 20m in front of the reception on tarmac and adjacent to a mown grass area. The second on the northern end of the site adjacent to an old road access point also on tarmac and adjacent to mown grass. The assembly point to be used is as directed by site staff. Both areas have assembly point signs 1000mm x 600mm.

 

Miscellaneous information:

The road system on the site is of either a compacted gravel surface or tarmac, there is one short area of designated raised pavement. The remainder share pedestrian and vehicular use. There are grass areas to the side of all roads. There are some small speed bumps which do not reach the edge of the road. The facility blocks are well lit and there are a number of movement sensor lights at relevant points, the walk ways have low light coverage.

The site is situated on a slope with a rise of 15m from the entrance road to the top of the site.
