Our Beaches & Fossil Collecting
Charmouth’s unspoilt beach is a great beach for children with safe swimming and rock pools just waiting to be explored at low tide.
Further along the coast is the historic trading port of Lyme Regis and landing place of the Monmouth Rebellion.
The massive stone walls of the 13C Cobb has always been the towns focal point. Jane Austin, Beatrix Potter, PG Woodehouse and J R Tolkien have all spent summer holidays here so you are in good company! Colin Dexter writer of Inspector Moorse described Lyme Regis as his favourite place on earth!
With its flourishing cinema, theatre, restaurants, gardens, sailing, mackerel fishing, aquarium, individual shops, museum and long seaside promenade Lyme Regis will always entertain. The Undercliff Nature Reserve and the miles of coastal footpaths can lead to splendid summer walks.
Don’t forget there is the Lyme Regis Carnival Week, Regatta Week, the Fossil Festival, Jurassic Coast Earth Festival, Dorset Arts Week and much more. Contact the tourist information centre on 01297 442138
