Caravan Storage — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about storing your caravan with us

Every stored caravan must be fully roadworthy so it can be towed on the park. That means working brakes, a working handbrake, a usable breakaway cable, a hitch lock, a jockey wheel and tyres holding air. A caravan with a damaged or missing breakaway cable will not be moved under any circumstances until it is replaced — these can be bought from reception and fitted by our ground staff for a small charge.
When you visit, please check that tyres are not perished and are holding air, that hitch locks are not rusty and still work properly and that the caravan is clean and tidy. It also helps to remove batteries from any detectors before your caravan goes into storage — a battery losing power can trigger an alarm, and the sound carries widely across the park.
Yes — it is a condition of your storage agreement that your caravan remains fully insured throughout. Please make sure reception has a copy of your current renewal documents.
A hitch lock can be used in the compound, and we will need a spare key held at reception. Wheel clamps are not permitted in the compound itself, but you are welcome to fit one while on a pitch — you will need to fit and remove it yourself and store it in your caravan or take it home at the end of your stay.
Yes — all gas cylinders must be switched off whenever the caravan is not in use.
The site gate is locked at 11pm and reopens at 7am. We ask that you respect these times and only contact the duty warden for genuine emergencies. If you need to leave before 7am, please use the overnight car parking area instead.
When booking a stay, please let reception know you store your van with us and our team will make every effort to book you onto your preferred pitch. A specific pitch can never be guaranteed, so please bear this in mind on arrival — our reception team always do their best for you.
If you are a Camping and Caravanning Club member, please bring your membership card with you when checking in at reception, especially if you would like to take advantage of the age concession discounted rate. Club membership rules apply.
Before leaving your van, please make sure everything is stowed away, gas and all electrical appliances are turned off and your steadies are up. Don't forget to empty your fridge and freezer before you go.
There is no charge for towing out of storage onto a pitch, unless your stay is for one night only. For one-night stays, or if you need your caravan towed out from storage for reasons other than using the holiday park — for example a service — we reserve the right to charge a £15 tow-out fee.
Yes, but we need written notification first — this matters because many caravans are blocked in by others during the closed season. Please call into reception on your last visit to complete the form and collect the tag for your caravan, or write or email us before the season closes. Verbal instructions must always be confirmed in writing.
Matt Saunders from Heritage Caravan Services visits the site for all repair and servicing enquiries and comes highly recommended by many of our customers. He can be reached on 01297 551030 or 07854 041080, or by email at saunders.matt18@gmail.com. Please note that servicing during high season is very difficult to arrange while you are off site, so we would ask you to avoid booking servicing in this period where possible.
Yes — Brown's Motorhome & Caravan Mobile Washing Service, run by Dan Brown, is available. He can be reached on 07402 000299 or by email at brownsmotorcaravanwash@btinternet.com. As with servicing, cleaning is very difficult to arrange during high season while you are off site, so please try to avoid booking in this period where possible.
Charmouth Caravans Ltd, based in Charmouth, are happy to look at vans with a view to buying — they can be reached on 01297 561231 or 07530 178536, or via charmouthcaravans.co.uk. Please note that storage is not transferable: if a caravan is sold while in storage, the storage agreement does not automatically pass to the new owner without prior written consent from Monkton Wyld.
