Monkton Wyld Access Statement

Monkton Wyld Holiday Park is accessible by car or public transport. It is 4 miles from Axminster railway station, which is on the main Waterloo to Exeter line.  There is a number X51/53 bus service from Axminster station every hour to the Hunters Lodge pub which is one mile from the site. From the Hunters Lodge pub bus stop to the site it is necessary to cross the busy A35 trunk road. There is a dedicated pedestrian crossing point.  The walk to the site is level and mainly on pavements. There is a 500m stretch of lane with no pavement.  The site is signposted with brown tourism signs.

From the entrance to the holiday park there is a 80m uphill sloping tarmac road to reception with two speed humps.  The area outside reception is level tarmac with adequate room for parking and turning vehicles.  There are no dedicated disabled parking bays.  A bench is situated immediately outside reception.

There are two steps up to the reception door; alternatively, a ramp is provided. There is a 25mm high threshold to cross to enter the reception.  There is adequate space in reception for a wheelchair to turn around. 

At night the entrance to the holiday park is controlled by a locked barrier between 2300hrs and 0700hrs. Between these times access is via a late night parking area.  The late night parking area is situated 140m north of the main entrance along Scott’s Lane.  There is parking room for 4 cars.  The parking area is compacted gravel.  Pedestrian access to the site from the late night parking area is via a 1.2m wide path through a 1.2 m wide wooden gate. There is a 10m paving stone path leading to the main tarmac internal site roads.  This area is located centrally in the site.  Reception is 105m uphill from this point.  All areas are lit by low level amenity lighting.

In general, the holiday park is situated on a slope, with 50% of access roads either going up or down the slope. The roads are mainly tarmac with some compacted hardcore.

Camping pitches are either grass or gravel. Some gravel hard standings have to be accessed across grass areas, some are accessible directly from the internal site roads. Our park is generally well lit. It is, advisable, however to bring a torch and just in case you forget yours, we do have them for sale in our on-site shop.

There are two shower blocks, block A has a 100mm step to the main wash area; shower areas have level access. One shower room provides full ablution facilities suitable for the partially disabled.    Block B has a fully accessible shower/wash/toilet facility, access controlled by a RADAR key, (If you do not have a RADAR key, we have spare keys at reception available for a refundable deposit, please ask on arrival).
